Work on the house

Planted a Redbud tree in the front yard yesterday. Will upload pictures.

Last week replaced the front door & the week before installed a flower box. Monica's been busy digging in the earth unearthing and planting. Gave away perhaps a hundred daffodils. Kept a few. The inside is still in desperate need.

Had a visitor in our dogwood tree. Have you ever seen a sight like this?

It's father's day. Happy father's day all. Will join Monica's dad at her sister Lori's house to celebrate his day. Got a nice text message from Daniel. Nice of him to remember.

Took Monica to see Leon Russell last night at the Madison Theater in Covington, KY last night. He's a legend. Took her on the motorcycle. Just a quick ride down the hill to downtown. We're loving the location of our new digs. Give us a few months, we'll have the building in shape.

The Triumph is sadly idle. Perhaps I'll get it out later.

Dave and family are in Africa on a safari. Lot's of discontent on that continent. Come back safe will you?

Memorial Day thoughts - A special vet - Uncle Jack Griner

Uncle Jack Griner, our dear Uncle from Palm Springs just left for his home in California after a 2 week visit here in Northern Kentucky. He's Edith, our mother's brother. I commend his service during WWII and for the years that followed. Just two months ago he lost his sweetheart, wife of 59 years! Here's a picture of the two of them. Their names were always spoken together, "Jack & Erna."

Here's a picture of a chance encounter with a fellow WWII vet Mr. Kusano, age 86 with his son and daughter in law. We were at the Cincinnati Museum Center when he approached them with, "My nephew speaks Japanese..." Come to find out they were both in WWII together in different theaters of the war but at the same time. On meeting Jack, Mr. Kusano immediately reached his hand out to shake Jack's. You can see the warmth between them. This was only the second Japanese WWII vet Jack had met.

Later when we gathered in Indianapolis, he was appointed de-judge of Hamilton County Indiana. Unfortunately Roger caught the severe sentence handed down that day, dinner with his brothers at the local Knoblesville, IN Italian restaurant. Jeeessshhhh Uncle Jack. Must have been a bad day.

Sure was good to see you. Happy memorial day. We're thinking about you today.
